Thanksgiving 1993

Hey Folks!

This blogging once per week thing is going to be way harder than I anticipated. Life has been crazy intense for me. I say that like my life isn't usually crazy intense. :) My question really is how do you live your life to the fullest without over committing yourself??? Life takes on a fantastic flavor when you squeeze in that one more thing...... take that crazy leep of faith..... take that unexpected road trip or do that thing that just doesn't exactly makes sense. With that said lets get back to Thanksgiving. Today I'd like to talk about why I'm thankful for my family.

The memory that comes to mind when I think of family and this holiday is Thanksgiving 1993. I was a freshman at Harding University in Searcy Arkansas. Every Thanksgiving they run all the students out of the dorms for the whole break. I had made arrangements to spend Thanksgiving with a friend's family. The night before I had to be out of the dorms this girl comes to me and says, "I'm sorry its just not going to work out for you to spend Thanksgiving with us.... I hope something else works out for ya"

Early the next day I'm scrambling around looking for somewhere to go and still make it to all my classes. One of my friends couldn't offer a place to stay but did have an extra seat in his car heading to California. In a panic (at this point I had visions of myself staying in a motel somewhere in Searcy Arkansas on Thanksgiving eating a bowl of cereal and feeling "really Thankful") I call my Mom and explained the situation.

"Hi Mom....basically I'm getting kicked out of the dorms in a couple hours and I dont have a place to stay for Thanksgiving..... but I did get a ride to Bakersfield California..... can you come and pick me up???" My Mom's voice on the other end saying, "Cindy Bakersfield is a long ways away!" This is when I burst into tears saying, "I'm really homesick!" My mother's reply is awesome!!!! "Ok Cindy .... you get in that car and I will find a way to come and get you"

Let's put it this way........ Bakersfield California is about 15 hours away from where my family lives in Oregon!

Need I say more! My mom loves me! :) Who can say thier Mother and Grandmother took a spontaneous 15 hour road trip to pick you up to only spend 2 days at home..... turn around and drive you another 15 hours to catch your ride back to Arkansas. AMAZING!!!!

Thank you Lord for my family!!!!!
